
Rationale
This programme extends students’ understanding of the law relating to shipping, such as marine insurance, ancillary contracts, the ship as property and develops students’ knowledge of international trade such as social, economic and political influences upon the trading relationships of parties. In addition, students are given the opportunity to broaden their expertise with the two modules that they will choose from the provided optional courses.
The structure of the programme is designed in such a way so as to offer candidates the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding in order to face the challenges of the dynamic and complex environment of the law.
Knowledge and Understanding
Students are expected to gain knowledge and understanding of, for example:
- the law relating to shipping
- marine insurance
- ancillary contract
- the ship as property
- the choice of law/jurisdiction clauses
- the different types of international commercial contracts and the respective implications for the parties involved
- the various international conventions applicable to international trade
- a consideration of bills of lading
