MSc Psychological Science

The programme is designed for graduates with a minimum 2:2 honours degree. In addition, relevant work experience and equivalent qualifications in cognate fields (e.g., sociology, economics) with substantial research methods experience will be considered.

The programme welcomes non-native English language speakers and requires, where appropriate, an English level of IELTS (International English Language Testing System) average score 6.0 or equivalent.  In any case, certified demonstrable achievements in a Standard English Language Competency Test will be necessary and Candidates may be interviewed as part of the selection process.

Στόχοι Προγράμματος Σπουδών

The ethos of the  programme is to provide students with a general awareness of how and where psychology is applied in a real world context, and to develop the student skill set in how to apply it effectively and ethically so that they can become highly informed ethically aware and critically reflective psychological graduates. The aims are to create a vibrant and positive teaching and learning environment for students characterised by research-led teaching.

The three streams offered on this MSc programme have been chosen, and tailored, specifically to meet the educational and learning needs of students interested in working in academia, clinical psychology, clinical and community health and other applied settings. It is also suitable for professionals interested in career advancement. Further, the course programme offers you the opportunity to develop both your academic specialism and your self-development through our professional skills modules.

As a programme graduate you will be able to:

  • Describe advanced research methods and a variety of psychological theories and paradigms, and identify the applicability of psychological methods and theories to personal and social issues.
  • Demonstrate reflective and critical thinking regarding psychological research and its applications and recognise the significance of psychological theories and psychological research methods for personal and social issues in everyday life.
  • Develop and apply learning practices for independent studies, such as to identify where and how to locate and access information relevant to the study and research, to interrogate new information, to break tasks into manageable parts, to focus on task-related goals and to provide and receive feedback on learning experiences and progress.
  • Display communication and presentation skills, that is, writing skills, oral presentation skills, and interviewing skills.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal competencies and professional sensitivity in accordance with the role of psychologists in society, and develop mature and ethical attitudes that help to understand and address social and psychological issues.
  • Apply psychological theories and methods to personal and social issues by considering the utility and feasibility of such applications.

A three streams programme This programme offers the following three streams. a) Research Methods b) Applied & Social Psychology c) Clinical Psychology Students can chose which stream they would like to pursue once they register and there are core modules for each particular strand and the research methods are compulsory to all streams (See below).
