“Career Day”, an event organized by IST for the 18th consecutive year on Thursday, April 2 2015 was met with great success.

Career Day - April 2, 2015

With the participation of a plethora of companies, "Career Day” brought together IST’s students and alumni with representatives of companies from different sectors of the economy, giving students the opportunity to experience the interview process, network, but also claim a job or internship position, thus, facilitating the integration of students into the labor market and ultimately contributing to the enhancement of employability of young people.

Mr. Nikos Manesiotis, Treasurer of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President of the Piraeus Traders Association honoured us with his presence by delivering a speech to companies’ representatives and students. Mr. Manesiotis, referring to today’s labour market, stressed how important it is for the new generation to be active, never rest on their laurels and exploit opportunities.

Participants also had the opportunity to attend presentations given by Mr. Vaggelis Tsaliagkos, Senior HR Manager of Wind and Constantinos Matsourdelis, Co-founder of the Museum of Greek Gastronomy. Mr. V. Tsaliagkos referred to the new trends in the labour market and the skills employers look for, while Mr. K. Matsourdelis spoke of the startup he founded in 2013, referring to entrepreneurship as a career option.

IST is focused on linking education with the labour market, with a commitment to adding value to employers and enterprise while at the same time ensuring that its students will acquire the necessary skills essential for a successful career. It aims at cultivating an environment which supports, encourages and promotes entrepreneurship and innovation among its students.

The aforementioned aim is achieved via programmes of studies corresponding to the needs of the Greek market, via continuous enrichment of courses in collaboration with businesses, but also via a plethora of activities, such as the organization of a series of events for students (seminars, talks, conferences, educational visits, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition Crazy Business Ideas, etc.), but also via collaborations with the Athens and the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with which IST has signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming at improving competition among Greek businesses and the Greek economy in general and to enhance the business environment in Greece.
