2ND GRADE LYCEUM STUDENTS THE WINNERS OF THE 1ST PRIZE OF CRAZY BUSINESS IDEAS 2014!

IST College awarded on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in an open to the public event, the 3 best ideas of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Contest "Crazy Business Ideas" organized by the College for the 4th consecutive year aiming at motivating young people from all over Greece to send their ideas for a new product or service, but also transform them into business! The competition is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, the General Secretariat for Youth, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (P.C.C.I.)

The audience was greeted by Dr. Christos Vassilakos, General Secretary of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Vassilis Korkidis, President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and President of the National Confederation of Greek Commerce and Professor Charilaos Lambropoulos, Board member of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The General Secretary of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Christos Vassilakos stated that “GSRT’s strategy focuses on the triptych “RESEARCH, INNOVATE, VENTURE FOR GREECE”. This is what we place emphasis on, creating an innovation-friendly environment. Our vision is ‘The Greece of Innovation of 2021’. With these thoughts, I wish that the next Crazy Business Ideas contest doubles the 117 "crazy ideas" that were submitted this year and the 6.424 people who voted. I also wish that the contest continues to get upgraded every year, thus, forming a participatory and effective process. This is what will be its great contribution to the country's economy; its development, but mainly the cultivation of an innovation culture.  In turn, this will have a multiplier effect and will make the country's ecosystem more competitive in the global environment."

It is worth noting that following the awards, the General Secretary of Research and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Christos Vassilakos, stated that "Because we believe that the state should support and reward such creative efforts, especially so if they are the offspring of young people, the General Secretariat of Research and Technology will additionally reward the six finalists of the contest, by giving €4,000 to the 1st prize winner, €3,000 to the second prize winner, €2,000 to the 3rd prize winner and €1,000 to each of the other 3 finalists. The aforementioned monetary prizes will be given to the beneficiaries based on proposals they are going to submit to us for further continuation and promotion of the products and services they wish to launch in the market"

The President of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Vassilis Korkidis, highlighted that "Our goal is not only to help in the creation of a new generation of entrepreneurs, but also to encourage this generation to think in an entrepreneurial way, to dare, to take initiatives, to create strategies and partnerships",  adding that "We have been moving in this direction lately, placing emphasis on enhancing exceptional entrepreneurial initiatives like the Crazy Business Ideas contest.”  Mr V. Korkidis then referred to the Chamber’s Entrepreneurial Club, which was launched earlier this year in April and invited the 6 teams to become members of the Club, where, as young entrepreneurs they will have the opportunity to hold meetings, to exchange views and to welcome delegations from foreign countries.

Professor Charilaos Lambropoulos, Board member of the ACCI, highlighted that "We ought to believe and lay our hope to young people and their crazy ideas, giving them the opportunity they so much deserve and are entitled to in order to help them become autonomous and dynamic members of the business community. And, furthermore, we ought to support and advise them when the need arises, so as they achieve their goals the soonest possible. At the ACCI we apply the SMART model (acronym for: Secure - Modest - Adaptive - Research - Transformative). As such, our goal is to offer young people a safe environment with Moderation to Adapt smoothly and help their  Research be transformed into a business product. That is why we invite them to apply to our incubator for startups, THEA-ACCI (www.theathensincube.gr) which was launched in July 2014 in a modern building on 45, Cephalonia street in Kipseli and we are committed to providing them with the best possible support for the realisation of their goals. “

At yesterday's event, we celebrated together the end of a contest that, consistently, for 4 years, motivates a large number of young people to broaden their horizons, to further develop their skills, to test their strengths, and to believe in themselves, seeking an alternative way to the labor market, daring to turn an innovative idea into a business.

It is really encouraging to see, even under adverse conditions, young people, having faith in themselves, a vision and daring to make their dreams come true. It is worth noting that 2 of the 6 finalists (one of them is the winner of the contest) were 1st and 2nd Grade Lyceum students. It is heartwarming to see that young children, 15 and 16 years old, not only have good ideas, but intend to implement them.
