Job Opportunities Programme (JOP)
Priority to Employment
IST’s vision is the provision of high-quality education with a view to meeting the needs of the labour market. It offers undergraduate and graduate degree programmes that combine theory with the international methodology and practice while at the same time meet the needs of both the Greek and the global labour market.
At IST, all our academic programmes are designed, delivered and supported in such a way as to reflect the employment prospects of our graduates.
Your preparation is done methodically and gradually through a series of activities which aim at helping you develop the necessary skills to become competitive in the labor market.
IST has, over the years, consistently designing and implementing the “Jobs Opportunity Programme” (J.O.P.), an initiative that aims to disseminate knowledge and to develop those skills that will contribute effectively to enhancing the career prospects of students and graduates.
The following activities take place in the context of J.O.P.:
On The Job Training/Placement
Apart from the course work you do and the research you conduct, you have the opportunity to participate in short or long term ‘On-the-Job-Training’ programmes, with or without pay, in the area of your specialisation, with businesses or organisations that have job openings. It is worth noting that in some programmes such as Physiotherapy and Dietetics, there is provision for compulsory employment (placement) with organisations and businesses.
Annual Career Day
Every year, IST organizes the Annual Career Day, another opportunity to gain experience from the business world and the labour market . On Career Day, entrepreneurs and senior executives of companies and organizations come to IST and present their business, talk about their activities and discuss with you in an interview form, the prospects of your vocation and career. The aim of this institutionalized annual event is to familiarise you with interviews, as well as with the procedures involved when seeking employment.
Field Trips «IST on Site»
IST organizes every year a series of student visits, called “IST on Site”, during which, students have the opportunity to get in touch with business executives and experience first-hand how businesses and organizations operate.
Seminars, Conferences, Workshops
Throughout your studies, you will have the opportunity to participate in a series of extracurricular events that place emphasis on the development of your personal and professional skills.
These events have the form of seminars (e.g. how to write a curriculum vitae, interview techniques, etc), as well as workshops and conferences on a plethora of scientific issues and/or issues concerning current affairs.
The aforementioned events help students understand the need to enhance their personal competitiveness and flexibility while seeking employment. Such events also provide students with “food for thought” on scientific and societal issues.
Series of Lectures and Seminars “Business Voice”
At regular intervals throughout the academic year IST organises a series of lectures and seminars titled “Business Voice” whereby guest speakers (senior business executives), will discuss contemporary issues with students giving you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of your selected field of interest, exchange opinions with representatives of leading companies of various organisations from all sectors of the economy.
